Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter in their family. At the age of five the carnival barker father passed away which left Ruth's mother no option but to work as a cleaning lady and waitress in order to feed the family. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She attended school in the area. But she only stayed in school for a couple of years, then going on to pursue an acting career. The route she took was not without obstacles. When she was in New York, her first task was to pose stills for crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she wanted eluded. Then, she worked as an hat-checker at the nightclub before calling her quits and relocating to Boston. She was in Boston in which she was employed during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time as an usherette. She received a master's certificate in drama at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
